This page lists organisations who have supported the Information Point with financial donations.

Asda

In January 2013 the Asda 'Chosen by You, Given by Us' initiative donated £25 to the Information Point. Every month Asda stores choose three charities to feature on their Community Life Board in the stores foyer and every time a customer shops, they are given a token to use to vote. The customers then have to decide which of the three charities they would like to give their vote to and place the token in the relevant voting slot.

Chester Voluntary Action

Chester Voluntary Action (CVA) is an independent local charity whose mission is to support the development of community and faith groups, voluntary organisations and other charities in the Cheshire West and Chester area.

The charity celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014 and has a long history of initiating social action projects and working in partnership to support initiatives that improve the local community, encourage volunteering, promote social inclusion and reduce inequalities, including the distribution of a small health and wellbeing fund on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Public Health, for grassroots activities which fulfil the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Give, Connect, Keep Learning, Be Active and Take Notice.

In January 2015, Chester Voluntary Action gave a donation of £100 to the Information Point from this fund to continue raising awareness of Centronuclear and Myotubular Myopathy.

Co-operative Bank

In October 2010 the Co-operative Bank donated £1,000 to the Information Point from their Customer Donation Fund, which is available to any organisation with a Co-operative Community Directplus bank account, an account which gives charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises an ethical way to bank for free. Having recently set up such an account, we were able to apply to their customer donation fund for help with our work. In December 2013 they subsequently donated a further £750.

The fund was started in 2003 and grows in relation to the deposits made, so for every £100 increase in collective deposits across Community Directplus accounts 20 pence is added to the fund with a promise to distribute a minimum of £5,000 twice a year. At the time our donation was made, £328,000 had been donated to 393 organisations.

All projects selected for a donation must reflect the Bank's determination to encourage the sustainable improvement of communities, support ecological and ethical developments and promote diversity and education.

Community Champions Fund

The Community Champions Fund was set up by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to help support and develop the work of people who are involved in changing their communities for the better.

In March 2007 the Community Champions Fund awarded the Information Point a grant of £2,000 for our work.

Galaxy Hot Chocolate

The Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund donated £300 to The Information Point during its 2014/2015 campaign. The fund aims to help small, local community groups and charities across the UK and Ireland and donates cash awards to support warm hearted people and projects, giving them a helping hand and hopefully inspiring more people to get involved with local community groups.

Skipton Building Society

In 2014 and 2016 The Information Point received a donation of £500 from the Skipton Building Society Grassroots Giving initiative.

UnLtd Millenium Awards Scheme

In 2007 the UnLtd Millenium Awards Scheme awarded the Information Point £1,000 as part of the Be Cause Awards initiative.

The BeCause awards were operated by UnLtd and Bebo, the social networking website. Judges from UnLtd and Bebo selected projects they believed to have the potential to make a positive impact on society. The whole Bebo community was then asked to vote for the best project.

Waitrose

In October 2011 Waitrose opened its first store in Chester and the Information Point was selected to take part in their Community Matters initiative. Launched in 2008, Community Matters donates money to local causes and during 2010/11 donated over £2.7 million to 8,500 worthy causes.

Each month, customers decide by using tokens provided at the till, how much of a monthly total of £1,000 or £500 in convenience stores such as the Chester store, should be donated to three charities or community groups, which are nominated by customers and selected by Partners.

Projects selected for financial support are required to focus on one of four key areas, namely the advancement of environmental protection or improvement; the advancement of citizenship through initiatives that support and promote volunteering; the advancement of financial education including initiatives that promote accessibility to both financial education and financial services; or the advancement of community development through initiatives that build and strengthen communities.

WillCure

WillCure is a non for profit charitable organisation, the purpose of which is to fund one or more research projects every year that support scientific research that is actively pursuing cures and/or treatments for those affected with myotubular myopathy. The charity supported The Big Sunflower Project 2014 with a donation of £50.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation

During July 2010 the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation held a Make a Difference Week in its branches across the UK which resulted in the Information Point receiving a donation of £100. During the week long campaign, customers of the society, staff and the general public were invited to nominate a cause that they would like the Foundation to support and members of the Chester branch kindly nominated the Information Point.

The campaign is linked to the Society's unique scheme called 'Small Change, Big Difference', which largely funds the Foundation. Through this scheme, pence interest on members' accounts is donated to the Foundation and is then used to help many different good causes and charities throughout the UK where even a small donation can make a big difference.

Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank Foundation

In February 2011 the Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank Foundation donated £350 to the Information Point. The foundation was launched in July 2008 with the aim of providing support to registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, community and other voluntary organisations.

Projects selected for financial support should focus on one of key four key areas, namely the advancement of environmental protection or improvement; the advancement of citizenship through initiatives that support and promote volunteering; the advancement of financial education including initiatives that promote accessibility to both financial education and financial services; the advancement of community development through initiatives that build and strengthen the communities in which we operate.
